New Technology Alerts on Quantum Technologies The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), has published a new set of Technology Alerts in the field of quantum technologies. Quantum technologies have the potential to become a strategic area of scientific and technological development capable of transforming sectors such as computing, telecommunications, and cybersecurity. These technologies, based on the principles of quantum mechanics, promise capabilities far superior to those of current classical systems. Quantum computing seeks to harness phenomena such as superposition, entanglement, and quantum interference to perform extremely complex calculations in much less time than conventional computers. Its development could revolutionize a wide range of technologies, including materials simulation, logistics, artificial intelligence, and drug discovery. Quantum Photonic Communication, meanwhile, relies on the use of light particles (photons) to transmit information with high levels of security and efficiency. This technology is considered essential for the development of future quantum networks and the so-called “quantum internet.” Finally, quantum cryptography represents a new generation of digital security systems. Techniques such as quantum key distribution make it possible to detect any attempt at interception during information transmission, making it a key tool against growing cybersecurity threats. Together, these technologies have the potential to drive a new technological revolution with significant economic, scientific, and strategic implications on a global scale. The OEPM has made three new Technology Alerts available to the public, providing information on the most recent patent applications worldwide for inventions in the fields of quantum computing, quantum photonic communications, and quantum cryptography. With these three new additions, the OEPM now offers a total of forty Technology Alerts, which provide daily updates on published patent applications related to a wide range of technologies.
