World Anti-Counterfeiting Day 2026 To mark World Anti-Counterfeiting Day (WACD), celebrated on June 10, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) took the opportunity to highlight the importance of respecting industrial property rights, which are the driving force behind innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth. Protecting these rights helps create a favorable environment for investment, creativity, and business development, while also ensuring fair competition in the marketplace. Throughout the week, the OEPM shared various awareness-raising messages on its social media channels aimed at educating the public about the harms associated with purchasing counterfeit products and the need to respect industrial property rights. This year’s WAC focused on the key role of industrial designs. Registering an industrial design is a strategic decision that protects the appearance of products and strengthens their visual identity in the market. This right grant the owner exclusivity over the registered design, preventing its unauthorized use by third parties and providing greater legal certainty. It also facilitates differentiation from competitors, increases the value of the company’s intangible assets, and can generate new business opportunities through licensing or collaboration agreements. DMA is also commemorated within the framework of the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, which, as it does every year, has launched its Spring Campaign. On this occasion, the campaign is also dedicated to highlighting the importance of industrial designs and promoting respect for these rights as an essential element in protecting the creativity, innovation, and competitiveness of European companies.
