STREET VENDORS ON THE BEACH PROMENADES It’s true that e-commerce has experienced significant growth in recent years, but the phenomenon of street vendors is still present on our streets and beach promenades. This photo, taken this summer on a seaside promenade in Spain, shows how some tourists have taken advantage of their vacations to get one of the most sought-after items of the moment: the tee-shirt of the award-winning Spanish national team, sporting its two stars as two-time champions. The OEPM would like to remind everyone that the sale of counterfeit products constitutes a crime and has significant economic, social, and environmental consequences. The sale of these products creates unfair competition and harms the economy, in part because it takes place outside the scope of tax obligations. Furthermore, it contributes to labor exploitation, may pose risks to consumers’ health and safety, and can have a negative impact on the environment, as these products are not subject to the same manufacturing controls and standards as original products. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that on the specialized website Stopfalsificaciones, you can review the travel guide “Give it a second thought before buying a fake product abroad”, which is available in six languages. This guide, despite the passage of time, remains fully relevant and offers recommendations for making responsible purchasing decisions while on vacation. More information
