The novel strain has the ability to accumulate a high level of carotenoids, primarily lutein, which constitutes approximately 2/3 of the carotenoids accumulated, and the strain biomass additionally has good organoleptic properties. The strain exhibits a high growth rate with rapid pigment accumulation, and has a simple culture protocol which can be easily scaled up.
