Disclosed in the present invention are a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, a preparation method therefor and use thereof. The preparation method for the biodegradable aliphatic polyester of the present invention includes the following steps: dispersing a polyester product obtained by an esterification reaction and a polycondensation reaction in a tetrahydrofuran aqueous solution to carry out contact treatment, and carrying out post-treatment to obtain the biodegradable aliphatic polyester, wherein a duration of the contact treatment is 2 - 20 hours, and a temperature is 20-65°C. The biodegradable aliphatic polyester of the present invention has a whiteness index of ≥20 and an acid number of ≤1.45 mg KOH/g. Through the contact treatment process with the tetrahydrofuran aqueous solution, the low acid number is maintained while the color of the aliphatic polyester is improved, and meanwhile, the aliphatic polyester does not undergo performance degradation.

A method for degrading polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or derivative thereof with an enzymatic cascade is provided. The method includes treating the PVA or derivative thereof with an enzyme effective to oxidize hydroxyl groups of the PVA to ketones; an enzyme effective to oxidize ketones of the PVA to esters; and an enzyme effective to hydrolyze ester bonds to create fragments of the PVA. For decorated PVA (such as succinyl side chains), the method may further include treating the PVA with an enzyme effective to remove the succinyl side chains from the PVA material. Also provided are biodegradable packaging materials, such as for food products, that include the enzymatic cascade for degrading PVA or derivative thereof.
