A computer-implemented method is disclosed for generating a radiation treatment plan for a patient for future radiation treatment sessions. The method comprises obtaining one or more images of the patient then generating, based on the one or more images, a representation of a plurality of potential anatomical states of the patient which may occur during the future radiation treatment session. Based on the representation, generating at least one treatment plan. Optionally, the method uses deformation vector fields and/or a recurrent neural network for generating the representation and/or can be used in adaptive radiotherapy. A data processing apparatus, a computer program and a computer readable medium able to carry out the method is also disclosed. Such a method can reduce treatment margins and can improve the adaptive radiotherapy process by improving speed, safety and reduce the need for physician presence.
